Gala Concert success!

On Friday we had the Gala Concert at our Kura. A performing cast of 150 students all pitched in on stringed instruments, lyres, marimbas, brass, woodwind, amplified and acoustic instruments. After a Karakia and Waiata by Cantabile Choir, led by Jane, we kicked off with our string programme and Class 3, 4 and 5 led by Hugo and accompanied by Iselta. We finished this section with over 100 strings playing a Twinkles. This was followed by the Marimbas and recorder group led by Katharina. We then had the Chamber Orchestra culminating in a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire” sung by Hineatea.

In the second half, we began with Katharina’s Lyres and followed this with Ella and Suki performing a beautiful original. After this, we entered the more rocky part of the evening with Seven-Forty-Five performing, followed by the Class 6-7 Rock Band, coached by Klemens. At the end of the afternoon, we had the Junior Concert Band, directed by Jane performing Rock Around the Clock.

We totally blew our time slot and this concert was much longer than we intended. There was never a dull moment though – all of the performers gave it their all and it was a very special event, especially in this year of years. Thank you so much for your support and all the practice that has happened at home to make this event possible.
